January is also an excellent month to plan outdoor projects, get inspiration for the yard and devise your budget. Exterior

1) Examine & de-ice your gutters
2) Check exterior conditions for proper drainage
3) Check foundation for water accumulation/damage
4) Remove leaves and debris from window wells
5) Examine and clean all weep holes
6) Keep some salt & a shovel handy to keep walkways clear
7) Rake leaves and twigs to let the lawn breathe
8) Don’t tread all over frozen grass – roots can be damaged
9) Disconnect hoses and drain out the water
10) Cover exterior faucets with insulators
11) Winter is a great month to plan your major outdoor projects like pools, spas and major garden overhauls

1) Restock on firewood as necessary
2) Reverse ceiling fans to force warm air downwards
3) Check your sump pump for proper operation
4) Clean range hood filters: wash fan blades and housing
5) Check and replace furnace filters
6) De-clutter your home: focus on pantries, desks, closets, office spaces, cupboards, drawers, garage, etc.

Winterize Your Interior
1) Weatherstrip around doors and caulk around windows
2) Check your attic’s insulation, there should be at least 12 inches
3) Check and replace humidifier filters
4) Add extra blankets and slippers to your household to save energy costs
